The Bible is the most important book in the world, and the most important book of the Bible is Genesis. So when an uneducated farm-hand in backwoods Pennsylvania purported to receive revelations from God rewriting the Genesis story, he was touching a nerve. Long after Joseph Smith Jr.’s Bible-loving neighbors had murdered him, few of his critics ever paid any mind to these alleged gems of Genesis.
But also overlooked was the steady creep of new archaeological discoveries that trickled into museums and libraries in subsequent centuries. Unbeknownst to the world is how impossibly these new texts illuminate the stories of Genesis in precisely the ways Joseph Smith claimed.
Today, using philology and paleography, independent researcher Jonah Barnes has harmonized these texts against the Genesis revelations of Joseph Smith Jr. Together they illuminate the answers to questions like:
- Who the heck are the Giants mentioned in Genesis 6?
- Why did God flush the entire human race down with the Great Flood? What specifically were they doing that was so wicked?
- How could God command the slaughter of the Canaanites?
- What’s the straight story on the mysterious prophet Enoch?
- What really happened to Isaac on Mount Moriah? (Hint: not what you think)
- Is the Book of Abraham authentically ancient or is it a fraud?
- Why is Jacob the Captain America of the Bible?
- Have the lost 116 pages been right under our noses all along?
Anything but boring, The Lost Gems of Genesis will illuminate how Joseph Smith Jr. filled the biggest gaps in the most important book in the world. This book will show that the genuine Genesis is crucial to understanding the rest of the Bible and that it was originally centered around the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. After reading Gems, you’ll never look at the Bible the same way again.

Enlightening, intriguing, interesting, thought provoking, and so good!!! The restored gospel of Jesus Christ sheds light on dark places and reveals truth!! I think of these two quotes from Joseph Smith:
“One of the grand fundamental principles of Mormonism is to receive truth, let it come from whence it may.”
— History of the Church, 5:499
“Mormonism is truth; and every man who embraces it feels himself at liberty to embrace every truth.”
— Times and Seasons, Aug. 1, 1842
Jonah, thank you for facilitating the gathering of truth so that we can embrace it wholeheartedly and reject the evil diabolical creeds so Satan is exposed for all of the corruption he has spread.
One of the most insightful reads and a great follow-up to Key to the Keystone...love all the books I have from this publisher
I maintain a web site "pseudepigrapha.com". I really appreciate how Bro. Barns weaves pseudepigrapha, apocrypha, Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, etc. I recommend his books to many who show interest in my site. Thank you!
The research that went into writing this book really shows. It is well sourced and added a new dimension to my scripture study that has really opened up my understanding. I appreciated the extensive resources to further my study and the scripture references throughout. The pop-references and humor were a bit over the top in parts but didn't interfere with the meat of the book. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future and highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of these Bible stories and how they relate to God's plan for all His children. The connections made to Joseph Smith's prophetic calling and these ancient events was eye opening and demonstrates the truth that he truly was all he claimed to be.
So interesting! The author has put so many things together to reveal important truth.
